How to Find Your IP Address on Any Device

Every device connected to the internet has an IP address, but where to find it depends on whether you want your local network address or your public-facing one.

There are actually two IP addresses worth knowing about. Your public IP is the address the wider internet sees — you can check that instantly on our IP lookup tool. Your local IP is the address your router assigns your device on your home network, and it's only visible to other devices on that same network.

The steps below cover finding your local IP address on each major platform.

Windows

1. Click the Start menu and type cmd, then open Command Prompt.
2. Type ipconfig and press Enter.
3. Look for "IPv4 Address" under your active network adapter (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

Mac

1. Open System Settings, then click Wi-Fi (or Network).
2. Click Details next to your connected network.
3. Your IP address is listed under the TCP/IP tab.

iPhone

1. Open Settings, then tap Wi-Fi.
2. Tap the blue (i) icon next to your connected network.
3. Your IP address is listed under IPv4 Address.

Android

1. Open Settings, then tap Network & Internet, then Wi-Fi.
2. Tap the gear icon next to your connected network.
3. Your IP address appears in the network details (labeling varies slightly by manufacturer).
